Partners profit margin in 2011 between Apple and Samsung

Jan. 30, according to the Korea Financial Supervisory Service and the securities industry, Samsung Electronics mobile key partners archived 5~11% range of the operating profit margin. This rate shows average 3 times more than Taiwanese key partners of Apple who listed in Taiwan stock market. In fact according to market research firm Strategy Analytics(SA), the average sales price of iPhone is $650, but its manufacturing cost was knows a half of retail price, $280. Apple's fourth quarter profit of last year, 4 times of Samsung's was supposed due to the Apple's strategies of strong cost saving of partners.

In fact, even though it looks perfect shareholders' taste, Samsung seems to have not much possibility to reduce this higher procurement cost from Korean partners unless they change its providing line card to China or Taiwan like as Apple. However, they never take an affair and  it is not just simple matter of business view for Samsung in Korea. Korean people and even government put implied pressure to Samsung as a leading company should grow Korean industry eco-system and make win-win relationship between conglomerates and  small-medium companies.

iPad3 LCD panel will be shipped from Samsung, LG

Reportedly, Samsung and LG will provide LCD panel to upcoming iPAD3 is going to roll out in 1Q this year. Initially Sharp Japan was also considered as a provider but disqualified at this time. "The LCD panel for iPAD3 have started to provide from last month by Samsung and LG display is going to start to manufacture in this month", said by a related person. Apple connives discounting promo for iPhone4S in Korea

Reportedly some stores of SKT(www.sktelecom.com) sells iPhone4S at around $200 off from early this month. Customers can purchase iPhone4S 16G at $600 (regular price $800) and $850 for iPhone4S 64G (regular price $1000). The discount promotion for iPhone seems to be an unexpected signal in market. Competitively KT (www.kt.com) deducts around $40 from providing price of iPhone4S officially. Sales stores attract the customers to iPhone4S with diverse promotional gifts and discount program in real market. Apple connives this sales promotion even with their worldwide fixed price policy. Eventually the profit loss of iPhone4S should be charged to carriers.

This unexpected price drop of iPhone4S is caused by disappointing to expectation about iPhone4S as a next iPhone and LTE smartphones in Korea. Since the LTE service have launched in Korea in October, the major three carriers (SKT, KT, LG U+) sold 620 thousand units until end of November and they expect to sell cumulatively 800K units of LTE smartphones until end of this year. This market settlement toward LTE service in Korea blows iPhone4S directly.

Apple has to made other name for iPad to sell in China. The company which hold name of iPad have registered this product name in China in 2001, but Apple stared selling its iPad from 2010.

LTE iPad Coming to Japan Next Summer, LTE iPhone by Fall?

Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo has reached an agreement with Apple that will see an LTE-enabled version of the iPad launch next summer, with an LTE iPhone to follow in the fall. The agreement is said to have been hammered out in discussions that saw NTT DoCoMo senior executives travel to Cupertino earlier this month to meet with Apple CEO Tim Cook.
