SKT announced 100Mbps wireless service

The 100Mbps network speed enables smartphone to download HD class video of 2.4GB within just 10 seconds. Jan. 4th, SKT(http://www.sktelecom.com/) announced its technology, 'Heterogeneous Network Integration Solution' which combines cellular network (3G, LTE) and WiFi for single connection, has developed and will start this service in 2Q of this year. In this service, 3G user will experience LTE like speed and also LTE user could enjoys LTE-advance class. The present smartphone is able to select single network alternatively between cellular network and WiFi, but in this new service the smartphone can connect with both networks concurrently and transfer the data with its speed respectively. SKT will launch maximumly 60Mbps of 3G+WiFi in 2Q, then achieve 100Mbps of LTE+WiFi in next year. SKT will open and introduce this technology in MWC 2012 and try to make it a international standard.

The first speed goal of SKT, 60Mbps at WiFi+3G, seems to be bubble in reality. In real situation WiFi speed could be measured around 16~18Mbps and 2Mbps for 3G. Accordingly we might experience around 20Mbps at 3G service with this technology. However, it must be fantastic in LTE+WiFi which will be achieved around 80~90Mbps caused by leverage of WiFi.
